Some of y’all are going to want to nail me to a cross for this, but the cadet managed to get back to Europe! After three months of quarantine and social distancing in the southern US, I was getting restless. There was little for me in the US. It’s costly to live there. I was relying on the generosity of family for accommodation, which I felt was one heated argument away from being taken away. My relationship with some key family members got pretty sour. While I am very grateful to other family members, I was watching everyone hold some semblance of normalcy even in these COVID times while I was falling more in the cracks. The political situation sucks there. I tried to do my best to advocate for others and help out without putting my health and safety at risk as I was planning to move as soon as possible. I have not lived there for nine years, and this was not the time to start. I won’t go into some Anti-American circle jerk. There is enough of that going on in the world. The situation there makes me sad, and part of me wishes I stayed back to do more to help with things and provide whatever skills I have to advocate for those that need it. But I didn’t, I booked a one-way flight back for the 28th of June. I flew one way to Belgrade, Serbia, and eventually went on to Ljubljana, Slovenia which is my new home for the time being.
I would have never in a million years have expected to live here. I never have even been to Slovenia properly until last year. Somehow due to various personal reasons and how things played out, it is my new home for the time being. I will say that is this a very underrated and beautiful country that I have for a long time never bothered with.
I might stay here for a while or move to Prague soon. I have a couple of other ideas that involve The Hague and Tbilisi. The long term future is uncertain, but the short term future is Ljubljana. I’m going to embrace it and enjoy this new beautiful country that I live in.
Disclaimer: The cadet took proper safety measures while traveling and dutifully quarantined for two weeks upon arrival!
